Ron Van Gennip

 

Ron’s impressionist landscapes are soft and delicate, making the figures almost three dimensional in the paintings. His work has been likened to that of Robert Hagan whose paintings sell in America for tens of thousands of dollars. Ron has painted rich canvases that reveal his world of colour and emotion for more than three decades.

 

Robert Hagan and Ron Van Gennip worked together some years ago as a collaborative pair, and published a small book of paintings. When asked his favourite subject, Ron emphatically affirms, ‘Children and their world. It’s all about interpreting what lies beneath the surface of their innocence.’

 

Born in Australia from parents of an artistic background who moved from Netherlands to Sydney. Ron was encouraged to draw, sketch and pursue the wonders of his childhood amid the majestic vistas of the famous Blue Mountains in NSW.

 

At the age of 18, Ron accepted a three year working scholarship with the Sydney Technical College. For the next 12 years he worked with a prominent commercial art firm in Sydney, whilst studying with the Drummoyne Art Society, which was then guided by the most notable and heralded of Australian impressionists, Joshua Smith.

 

Eventually, Ron gave up commercial endeavours to concentrate on fine art. He sought to uncover the secrets that enabled Streeton and McCubbin to be known as the kings of the ‘Golden Era’ of Australian art. His observations helped him gain his present focal point.
